To paint the walls to your liking, it is not necessary to have studied a Master’s degree. The specialist in the decoration of BAUHAUS Spain, José Maria Villella, gives us some tips to put this art into practice and get it right.
Materials to use
When analyzing the surface to be painted, we can find that the wall has humidity, for example. For these cases, the use of specific products with or without fungicide (anti-mold) is recommended. With them, the typical damp stains (black tones) or mold stains are prevented from coming out again. If, on the other hand, we see that the wall to be painted is full of holes, we must use a putty, generically known as aguaplast, and apply it directly to the surface with the help of a spatula or a trowel (the latter in those cases where there are uneven considerable). When it dries, an hour or two later, the excess should be removed with very fine grit sandpaper. (Hint: it is better to apply the putty the night before).
In both cases, it is advisable to use a primer to ensure that the paint adheres evenly to the entire wall.
Choose the paint
If what we are looking for is to give it a special color, we can choose between: either a single-layer color plastic paint (there are 8 different collections with more than 100 different shades) or a white plastic paint to later apply a dye. Another option is a white plastic paint to be mixed in tinting machines.
To paint, you will need a roller, an extension, a trimming brush and a tray with a grid (the latter is not necessary if we finally decide to use a single-layer plastic paint, since it will already be included in the container). In all other cases it is simply essential.
Once the type of paint is chosen, all that remains is to pour the content into the bucketand wet the trim brush, starting at the corners. It is important to start the work in this area to go around the entire room with the brush.
Once this first phase is finished, the roller will be wetted in the bucket, in this case applying an ascending-descending movement on the grid to drain off the excess paint that the roller can absorb. We will use this same trajectory in the application of the wall, above all without putting too much pressure on the wall (this would only cause us to leave marks on the wall and that the back and neck would suffer). It should simply be allowed to “roll” with a smooth trajectory . (Hint: if possible, it is always better to have a non-drip roller).
It will then be allowed to dry according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, but not less than 3 hours if the weather is not humid. After this time we can give it a second coat, to obtain a perfect finish . While the second coat dries, you can entertain yourself by making small touch-ups with a very fine brush. When everything has dried completely, carefully remove the masking tape, plastic or protective cardboard, because… we’re done!
And one last piece of advice, if you want to preserve the painter’s tools, it is important to always clean them with water and put them to dry in a horizontal position.
